Diet after gastric bypass surgery must be taken seriously to avoid
raptures in the stomach.
After a person has undergone this medical procedure, it is
important that strict dietary rules for the same are followed to the
letter. Diet after gastric bypass surgery should be administered
lightly because after the surgery, one is bound not to eat solids as
they may take lots of time to be ingested thus causing discomfort in
the stomach. Diet after gastric bypass surgery must involve eating
very light solid foods as well as liquid foods only. Diet after
gastric bypass surgery would have to be fat free as fat was the cause
of the obesity in the first place. Therefore, the foods taken by the
invalids will constitute little or no fat at this stage because after
all, fat leaves a layer of lining in the stomach and intestines that
might in the future dates result to the reduction of the volume of
food material that the intestines can handle, leading to blockages and
ruptures of the same. Diet after gastric bypass surgery is the most
important part of the patient' recovery program.
At the start immediately after surgery, a patient goes through the
liquid foods stage which lasts a few days so that the body can
heal. However, the liquid food should constitute as much of a balanced
diet as possible in broth. As for beverages, room temperate juice or
diet soda would do. There should be no carbonated drinks as these
might cause bloating to the patient's stomach. In the semi liquid
stage, the patient can be fed on food that can be mashed and dissolved
in water. This could be a biscuit but only after the doctor advises
so. In the semisolid stage the patient may take boiled eggs and other
light solids that would constitute no danger to the stomach. Usually
this is after about one month' recovery from surgery. At this stage
too, the patient would do well to start acquainting him/herself with
foods that are fat free or come with little fat because he/she is
going to live with that. By this time, the wound should have healed
considerably. In the solid food stage, the recovered person now can
start enjoying their dietary meals according to the directions of the
nutritionist. This will constitute doing the solid food introduction
little by little to ensure that the body as well as the digestive
system does not reject anything. Lean red meat and fruit and vegetable
salads can be introduced at this stage and then sit back and wait for
weight loss to happen.
