You may need to have plastic surgery after gastric bypass
For many people who have gone through gastric bypass surgery in
order to lose weight, plastic surgery after gastric bypass has been an
inevitable procedure. After many years of weight gain, the skin
stretches; and since it is elastic, it stretches beyond the elastic
limit. For those who are not familiar with the term elastic limit, it
is the point of no return; where the skin loses its elasticity and
does not bounce back to is original form even after weight
loss. Gastric bypass is a weight loss procedure after which the body
loses weight fast and the skin, having lost its elasticity hangs
loosely on the body and is quite unattractive. Plastic surgery after
gastric bypass is necessary to give the person some self confidence in
the new slim body frame.
The extent of the sagging skin is dependent on many factors and the
most prominent of them is the amount of weight that has been lost from
the body frame. Peoples' bodies are different, and the excess skin
sags differently in every weight loss case. The most common areas are
the arms, thighs, stomach and the breasts in women. Some men have been
known to have sagging breasts after weight loss, so it is not just a
women's issue. The sagging skin brings about self esteem issues of
a different kind; one may no longer feel low self esteem because of
being overweight, but will start feeling that because of the extra
layers of skin, thus the necessity for a plastic surgery after gastric
bypass
Procedures like liposuction to remove the excess fat around the mid
section can be done. Brachioplasty is a more common procedure since
the extra skin on the arms is common to all the persons who have
undergone the gastric bypass surgery. The extra skin is removed in all
these procedures to further slim down the figure of the person and to
help him or her enjoy the new body. Mastoplexy is a procedure used to
lift the breasts and to give them a better arc. This may involve the
use of implants, although it is not always necessary.
Plastic surgery after gastric bypass may involve a tummy tuck
procedure as well. Any plastic surgery procedure will depend on the
amount of excess skin that a person has after surgery which will be
determined by the amount of weight the person has lost in the
process.
